  • EL SEGUNDO

    El Segundo is a small beach city home to LA AFB.  Spanish for “The Second,” it has about 17,000 residents.  Living here provides the shortest commute to LA AFB and has highly rated schools.  Many residents work in the aviation or petroleum industries.

  • HERMOSA BEACH

    Hermosa Beach, Spanish for “beautiful” is a beach town south of LA AFB.  It has many restaurants, coffee shops and parks.  Hermosa Beach schools are highly rated, and many residents are young professionals with families.  Hermosa beach is known for being flat and is popular for volleyball, fishing, swimming and surfing.

  • HUNTINGTON BEACH

    Huntington Beach is beautiful, but parking can be pretty terrible at most downtown venues.  There is a large nightlife scene and it is known as “Surf City USA”.

  • LAGUNA BEACH

    Laguna Beach has many community organizations which provide some really great volunteer opportunities and community activities.  This is a tourist destination and provides a lot of culture to its residents and visitors.

  • LONG BEACH

    Long Beach is a city northwest of NWS Seal Beach and JFTB.  Long Beach provides an urban/suburban vibe with many residents who are young professionals with families.  There is plenty to do in Long Beach, though the traffic can be a bit worse than some of the other neighboring beach towns.  Long Beach is definitely a tourist city with many attractions, museums and is a cruisers destination.  There are a number of areas within Long Beach: Belmont Shore (walking distance to the beach, home to many boutiques and restaurants and has many events throughout the year), Downtown (where the vast majority of tourist attractions are located), Craftsman Village (primarily residential housing of all types of architectures and ages), Bixby Knolls (filled with the art, history and culture scene), and Alamitos Beach (primarily condos and apartments dating as far back as the 1920s, known for Hamburger Mary’s and The Brit).

  • MANHATTAN BEACH

    Manhattan Beach is a beach city south of Los Angeles AFB.  Manhattan Beach has a laidback vibe with low crime.  Manhattan Beach is a smaller beach city, with only 2.1 square miles of beach front and is known for having some of the cleanest parts of the California coast.  Manhattan Beach is less touristy versus other nearby beach cities and only has just over 35,000 year-round residents.  It also has a more well-rounded age group of residents.  There is a number of restaurants and activities within the city limits.  Lots of nightlife and a large LGBT community.

  • MARINA DEL REY

    Marina Del Rey is a beach city north of LA AFB.  Marina Del Rey has an urban feel and many residents are young professionals with families.  The schools are above average.  Marina Del Rey is a lifestyle city with many outdoor and fitness activities along with year-round events.

  • NEWPORT BEACH

    Newport Beach boasts some of the best Pacific views.  There is plenty to do in the city as far as shopping, activities and restaurants are concerned.  Newport Beach has an urban/suburban feel with over 86,000 residents.  Newport Beach is known for some of the best healthcare facilities in the area and amazing shopping venues.

  • PALOS VERDES ESTATES

    Palos Verdes Estates is one of the fewer cities in the L.A. Metro Area that provides a more rural feel, most residents are retirees and the schools are highly rated.  It is considered an upscale community filled with mostly larger homes and some smaller shopping plazas.  This community was master planned prior to construction.

  • REDONDO BEACH

    Redondo Beach is a beach city south of LA AFB.  Many residents are younger professionals with families.  Redondo Beach is split between its north end and south end.  The north side of Redondo Beach has many apartments and condos with tough parking.  It is in close proximity to the beach and has convenient access to LA AFB, LAX and freeways.  Southern end of Redondo Beach has more of an “on the water” feel.  Riviera Village is a popular shopping spot.  Commuting out of town from the south end does take longer.

  • SANTA MONICA

    Santa Monica is a beautiful safe beach city north of LA AFB.  Santa Monica has an urban feel and many residents are young professionals with families.  Santa Monica has many restaurants, coffee shops, parks and retail.  Santa Monica has a wellness scene, has many family friendly activities and has very highly rated schools.  Santa Monica is most known for the Santa Monica Pier and its beaches.

  • SEAL BEACH

    Seal Beach is home to NWS Seal Beach and is one of the more conservative cities in the area.  It has an urban/suburban mix vibe and is home to many retirees.  Crime is nearly non-existent and the schools are amazing.  Surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing are very popular on the beach of this small town.

BEACH CITIES

 

Living on the coast tends to be a little more expensive, but these are beautiful places to live and are convenient for the outdoor lovers.  Homes in these areas are less likely to have A/C units.
