ATASCADERO
Atascadero is a great option, though it is the farthest of the areas to live and has a population of 30,000 residents. They do have a lake park where some events are held during the year. Originally the land was home to the Salinas and Chumash Indians, Atascadero was established as Atascadero Colony in 1913 by Edward Gardner Lewis, which is why at times it is called “Colonial Atascadero.”
GREENFIELD
Greenfield is located northeast of base in the Salinas Valley of Monterey County. It has a population of 12,500 residents. The city is 2.1 square miles. The primary industry of Greenfield is agriculture.
KING CITY
King City has a population of 14,000 and is a highly Hispanic community located northeast of Fort Hunter Liggett in Monterey, California. Originally known as Kings City, after its founder, Charles King.
PASO ROBLES
Paso Robles is the largest city in the area with 32,000 residents, it still has a small town feel. Home to the vast majority of wineries in the area, there will always be something to do on any given weekend.
TEMPLETON
Templeton only has 7,600 residents and is a very sought-after town. Templeton is quaint and cute, while being close enough to the US 101 to access shops and grocery stores. Twin Cities Hospital is in the heart of Templeton, as well as Trader Joes. It is said to have the best schools in the area.
SAN MIGUEL
San Miguel is the closest southern town from Fort Hunter Liggett and very close to Camp Roberts. It is the smallest city with only 2,800 residence and has the most rural feel in the area as you will be surrounded by vineyards, almond orchards and cattle ranches. Home to Mission San Miguel Arcangel.
