LA Area Bases - Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles Air Force Base (LA AFB) is located in El Segundo, just south of Los Angeles, California. LA AFB is home to the United States Space Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC).  The SMC is the head of research, development, testing, and acquisition of military space and missile systems.  LA AFB is the only active duty military installation is the greater Los Angeles area.  In addition to persons assigned to SMC and the 61st Air Base Group, Los Angeles AFB serves all Air Force personnel in the Greater Los Angeles area. We also serve Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard personnel who are stationed in this area:

 

- 1,200 active duty

- 2,067 family members

- 1,600 civilians

 

Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos (JFTB) is a joint operations installation located in the northwestern part of Orange County and about 25 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.  Originally a naval air station in 1942 for naval fighter pilots during WWII, today it consists of the Los Alamitos Army Airfield, consisting of two runways and is home to Company A, 1st Battalion and 140th Aviation Regiment.  JFTB is over 1,300 acres and is home to 850 full time employees, and more than 6,000 national guard and reserve service members.

 

Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach is the U.S. Navy’s facility for weapons and munition loading, storage and maintenance facility located in Seal Beach, California.  NWS Seal Beach has two detachments located in Fallbrook and Norco.  NWS Seal Beach is 5,256 acres and consists of 230 buildings.  It is also home to the WWII National Submarine Memorial – West.
